Rappahannock Electric Cooperative has built a strong example of how employers can intentionally develop the next generation of talent through meaningful internship experiences. Through its InternConnect program, REC provides students with hands-on opportunities across departments including engineering, cybersecurity, communications, clean energy, data analytics, and more. Interns work alongside experienced professionals, gain real-world project experience, and build skills that prepare them for future careers. REC’s commitment to structured mentorship and professional development has earned recognition from the Virginia Talent and Opportunity Partnership as a top employer for interns. Since launching the program, dozens of students have participated, demonstrating how intentional employer engagement can create both career pathways for students and a strong talent pipeline for the region’s workforce
